Mission Impossible?
In such a time as this, with the contentious state of today’s economy and the impending health care reform, is this mission impossible? David Rosen, President and CEO of Wexner Heritage Village, doesn’t think so
“Wexner Heritage Village isn’t just a nursing home ...
Introducing a sustainable model of health for our community.
Wexner Heritage House offers 79 private bedrooms to serve the needs of persons in need of advancing long-term-care. A caring, interdisciplinary staff (made up of doctors, nurses, aides, activity coordinators, social workers, nuritionists, chaplains and more) is at the ready to help residents achieve the best quality of life possible on these two neighborhoods.
Founded in 1951 through the grassroots efforts of a concerned group of community members, Wexner Heritage House opened with just three residents in its original location. It was designed to meet the needs of the Jewish elderly, and today remains the area's only environment for seniors offering a full-time commitment to meeting the needs of our Jewish community. However, we also boast the area's only Kosher Christmas party, and our full-time Christian Chaplain and relationships with other area churches today allows us to meet the needs of all in need.

What is long term care?
Part of a larger continuum of care, long-term care includes routine help with everyday activities such as eating, bathing and dressing necessitated because of chronic illness, disability or frailty. Long term care is provided to individuals in their homes, in community settings such as adult day care centers, or in housing settings such as assisted living facilities and nursing homes.
Who pays for these services?
This will depend on what type of service is needed, your own financial and insurance situation, and the laws and practices in your particular state. Long term care insurance, Medicaid, Medicare and private pay are several options that may be available to you.
What is the difference on what Medicare or Medicaid will pay at Wexner Heritage Village?
Medicare part A will pay for post-hospitalization skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. Medicare Part B will pay for outpatient services just like as if they the individual was in their own home. Medicaid also pays for post-hospitalization skilled nursing and rehabilitation services but will also pay for the services if the individual would need to live here long-term.
What does Medicare cover for a skilled nursing facility stay?
Medicare will pay 100% of a skilled nursing stay for days 1 through 20, then the patient is responsible for an out of pocket co-pay cost of $133.50 per day (in 2009) for days 21 and up to day 100 as long as the patient is meeting Medicare's "continued stay" criteria.
