Hospice
What Is Hospice?
At Wexner Heritage Village, hospice means we care for those living with a life-limiting illness, and provide comfort and support to patients and their families and friends. Hospice medical professionals are trained to provide education, comfort, and medical expertise—such as palliative care, which is pain and symptom management. Other staff and volunteers also offer comfort through emotional, social, and spiritual support.
Common Myths About Hospice
There are many misconceptions about hospice today. A common myth is that using hospice services means giving up hope. On the contrary, hospice is focused on living life to the fullest. Our own Zusman Hospice, for instance, focuses on helping patients and their families achieve their personal goals during the end-of-life journey, such as attending a loved one’s wedding or attending a grandchild’s sporting event, and more.
Learn More About Hospice Now
The best approach to learning about hospice is not to wait until hospice becomes a need. Research hospice organizations online to learn more, such as the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, which is a national organization—or at the state level through the Midwest Care Alliance (formerly known as Ohio Hospice and Palliative Care Organization).
Additionally, seek out local hospice providers and arrange to discuss, learn, and gain an understanding with a hospice professional or volunteer—face-to-face. At Zusman Hospice, we encourage and facilitate open discussion regarding your fears, questions, and goals.
