Wexner Heritage Village Gears Up to Open Creekside at the Village

June 15, 2005

Wexner Heritage Village (WHV) is gearing up to open Creekside at the Village, a project designed to offer an unparalleled community for older adults. The 82-unit independent apartment complex aims to offer the most gracious options for senior living available in central Ohio at its site on the main WHV campus nestled between Berwick and Bexley.

“ At Creekside, seniors will be treated to important, yet hard-to-find features such as full kitchens and washer/dryers in each apartment. Many apartments have wooded views and some offer patios or balconies,” said Meredith Douglas, executive director of Creekside at the Village.

In addition to well-appointed apartments, community members can expect to enjoy concierge services, valet parking, housekeeping and optional recreational activities. Two meals served daily will feature the world cuisine creations of executive chef Travis Kawasaki, former chef of Strada, 55 on the Boulevard and the Blind Monk (now Bexley Monk).

Creekside at the Village has also hired Vickie Slate, LPN, as wellness and health services coordinator. Slate will provide basic health screening and referral services. For tenants who would like additional home health care, contractual packages will be available as well.

With nearly all of the apartments preleased, a community of the future residents, called the Charter Club, has already formed. The Charter Club members come from central Ohio, but also areas such as Zainesville, Akron and states like Florida, Georgia and New Jersey. Many are returning to Columbus because it is home and close to family and friends.

“ They are part of a small percentage of seniors who proactively choose downsizing in anticipation of challenges as they age. Rather than let health issues force a hasty move, they have looked ahead and chosen to get the most out of their golden years. Studies have shown that the more active and social you are, the longer you are likely to live,” said Carolyn Brausch, leasing coordinator.

Many future residents consider Creekside ideal because it is centrally located, newly built with the latest considerations for senior lifestyles and it is part of the Wexner Heritage Village family of services. WHV has served local seniors since 1951 and offers community members rehabilitation services, senior transportation, hospice services and top-notch skilled nursing care should the need arise.

Construction is expected to wrap up in September. For more information visit www.creeksideatthevillage.com. Or call Carolyn Brausch at 559-0303.
