Creekside at the Village Names Member Council
June 14, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Community members residing at Creekside at the Village have voted several peers into the first ever Member Council. The group will meet to discuss issues of daily living at the 82-unit independent living apartment complex for seniors and work with management staff to enhance life for all residents.
The recently named executive committee of the member council includes Saul Sokol, president, Miriam Shenker, vice president, and Evelyn Wasserstrom as secretary. Representatives of individual floors are Jacob Rich, Eloise Saslaw, Rosalind Weisz, Sam Friedman and Sam Helman.
According to Sokol, “Within our first few meetings, we have already accomplished a lot thanks to the administrative staff’s cooperation and sincere efforts to work with our council.”
The member council is just the latest effort to use the input of the community to create Creekside at the Village, which opened last October. The apartment residence was built by Wexner Heritage Village in response to a community survey that demonstrated a need for market-rate independent living for older adults. Focus groups consulted further showed the desire for such a facility to be located on the campus of Wexner Heritage Village and to include many of the amenities now available at Creekside, such as restaurant-style dining, regular housekeeping services and flexible assistance-in-living packages.
Despite the challenges of downsizing from a four-bedroom house to a two-bedroom apartment, Sokol says he is pleased with his new home.
“I really like it here. I have a lot of acquaintances here and all my new neighbors are very friendly. The staff at Creekside is very congenial. You can’t beat that!” said Sokol.
