Community Enjoys Summer Celebration on the Campus of Wexner Heritage Village
August 15, 2006
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Over 200 community members visited the campus of Wexner Heritage Village recently for Summer Celebration, a free concert by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra along with an array of family fun events that serves as an open house for the system of senior services.
The annual event features the 15th Annual Barry B. Zacks Memorial Concert performed by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. It was first created in memory of the late Zacks through the family’s creation of the Barry B. Zacks Memorial Endowment Fund of the Columbus Jewish Foundation. A longtime supporter of WHV and avid music lover, Barry Zacks was a noted community leader and businessman who co-founded the Max and Erma’s Restaurant chain in addition to running other legendary eateries in Columbus.
The event began with the performance of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra with Peter Stafford Wilson conducting a selection of music including a traditional Kol Nidre and works by Mozart and Brahms. Following the concert, guests enjoyed an open house including light hors d’oeuvres while viewing an art show at Wexner Heritage House. Violinist Arkaidy Gips performed and Barbo the Clown engaged children in fun antics.
Other family activities such as corn hole toss, face painting and blowing bubbles were available on Welcome Place, a private drive leading to Creekside at the Village where guests could take tours, test their putting skills on the golf green, and enjoy Luke the Juggler’s moves and balloon animals.
“Every year, those served by Wexner Heritage Village really enjoy welcoming the community to enjoy our campus, which is their home. Guests of all ages were able to play, eat and enjoy art together in addition to listening to the world-class symphony music provided by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra,” said Robin Stock, assistant vice president – organizational advancement.
Additional sponsorship for the event was provided by Florence Melton, Huntington Bank, the Resident Council of Wexner Heritage House, JMM Architects and Dancor Print and Communications.
