January 29, 2007

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Supporters of Wexner Heritage Village heard an earful of political satire set to popular songs when the Capitol Steps performed at the Southern Theatre on January 18 to raise funds for the not-for-profit system of housing and services for older adults and adults with developmental disabilities. Nearly 900 community members attended, including 250 individual and corporate donors.
Those purchasing donor-level tickets also enjoyed a kosher pre-event reception in the adjacent Westin Great Southern Hotel.
Capitol Steps, currently enjoying its 25th year, performed songs from its latest album, “I’m So Indicted” and other quick-change routines including “Everything’s run by Pelosi,” “How do you Solve a Problem Like Korea?” and “God Bless my SUV”. The Capitol Steps consists of former Congressional staffers who turned from politics to comedy and now hold weekly performances in Washington, D.C. In addition, they frequently go on the road, create holiday specials for public radio stations throughout the country and have recorded 26 albums.
“Capitol Steps provided an extremely funny show that had broad appeal to those of any political affiliation and those with none at all. We are thrilled to have brought such a quality show to our longtime supporters, as well as to the greater community in Columbus. In addition to being thoroughly entertained, all who attended got to learn about our organization and support our mission,” said Robin Stock, assistant vice president – organizational advancement.
Limited Brands served as the lead sponsor. Patron-level sponsors included Archer-Meek-Weiler Agency, JMM Architects, National City Bank, and Jim and Tracey Bowman. Co-chairs for the event were Joy and Mike Gonsiorowski and Joyce and Chuck Shenk.
The event netted over $73,000 for WHV to use in programs and housing services that touch over 1,000 lives every day.
